Chapter 10 Math Test
There is a sheet on equivalent fractions in the Friday Folder that was corrected and not graded. We reviewed this concept today because it is challenging. The children will be allowed to use fraction tiles for the test.
Tuesday, April 24th
There is a review packet that we completed and corrected together in class today. Students should study this for the test and return it on Tuesday.
Thursday April 26th
Notecards on vocabulary and study guide concepts have been made. Students should study the notecards and reread the lessons to prepare.
Math: Fractions Ch. 10: First Check My Progress Quiz from this Chapter is Friday, April 13th.

Valentine's Celebration is the 13th. Please plan to bring in a Valentine for every classmate. If you would like to attach candy to the Valentines, please make sure it is nut, peanut, dairy and egg free. (Safe: Skittles, Starburst, Ring Pops, Smarties, Air Heads, DumDums)
We are going to Mass for Ash Wednesday.
Dress Down in USA colors for Thursday. Donation is $1 for 8th Grade Class.
Reading: Story from Reading Series: Yonder Mountain, Young Cherokee. There will be a reading quiz and spelling test. Spelling ABC order will be due. (Yes, we did have ABC order last time.)

Science: We are creating structures in STREAM with step by step instructions for other classmates to follow.

Social Studies: We are finishing Canada. There will be a unit test on Thursday, February 15th.

January 15th-19th in Third Grade
15th: Off for the holiday
Reading: We will continue reading The Cricket in Times Square. We will also be using the story Young Thomas Edison from our book series for skill work. However, the reading quiz next Friday will be multiple choice questions on The Cricket in Times Square and vocabulary matching from both the novel and Young Thomas Edison.
Science: We have started Chapter One (we skip around) Forces and Motion. In STREAM, the children will be doing experiments with force and motion. Next Wednesday, January 17th, the children will be presenting their ecosystem projects. They should be practicing their notecards at home however it does not have to be memorized.
Social Studies: The history of Canada and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
ELA: We are finishing verbs and will have a test on Thursday, January 18th. There is a packet to complete over the long weekend.
Math: We are finishing Chapter 6 which is a longer chapter.
We are in need of some donations to the classroom, please:
*Hand soap (please check for lactose as some soaps have it)
*Lysol cleaning wipes
*Dry erase markers in assorted colors

In anticipation of our return to school in January, please purchase a copy of The Cricket in Times Square by George Selden to be used as our next chapter book for reading.

Dear Parents and Students:
We have many things happening in third grade!
Reading/Spelling:We will begin the next story in our series What Do Illustrators Do? The reading quiz and spelling test will be on Monday, December 11th for What Do Illustrators Do? because of the shortened week next week. Spelling ABC order will be due on the 11th.
We will begin the story, The Harvest Birds on December 11th and will have the spelling test and reading quiz on Friday, December 15th as usual. There will be no spelling sentences due on December 15th for The Harvest Birds.
Math: We will hopefully complete Chapter 5 before break.
Science: There will be a science test on Ecosystems on Monday, December 18th. More information will follow next week.
Social Studies: We will begin our study of Canada when we return from break. For the next few weeks we will be talking about holiday customs around the world and our own family customs.
Next week, December 4th:
Book Reports are due! Please follow the original guidelines and come in with: your notecards, your summary hand written (in cursive), and your artistic display of the person from your biography on flat poster board. I look forward to hearing your reports.
December 5, 6, 7th:
Third Grade Job Interviews! Please see the detailed information that was handed out on Friday. This includes job descriptions, sample interview questions, the schedule of interviews and the job application.

Elves Magic Workshop
The third graders may bring in money to purchase small gifts for the people they love and who love them. We will attend at 12:25 p.m. following our lunch.
The Christmas Program
Students should dress up for the occasion (no hats or high head bands, please) and should report to the cafeteria by 6:00 p.m.
We have Mass followed by the Pre-K and 1st grade Christmas Nativity Show. We will have a small Christmas celebration in our room. A sign-up Genius will be posted for contributions to this event.

NOVEMBER 27-DECEMBER 1
Social Studies: The study guide and vocabulary note cards, notebooks and Social Studies books went home on Tuesday, November 21st. There is a list of ideas for study aides stapled into the agenda. Social Studies test on Mexico is November 29th.
Math: We are finishing the chapter and will have a chapter test on December 1st.

Hello Third Grade Families!
*Next week we will not be using the reading series, so no spelling or reading tests and homework.
*There will be an ELA quiz on nouns on Tuesday, November 21st. There is a packet to review for this in the agenda.
*We are finishing our study of Mexico. We will fill out the study guide next week. There will be a test on Mexico on Thursday, November 30th.
*Independent book logs for November are due on November 30th. Three hundred pages each month count towards the reading grade. I am still missing a few for October. The reading grades will be impacted if they are not turned in by next week.
*Book reports are due On December 4th. Also during the week of December 4th, students will have the chance to “interview” with for their permanent third grade jobs. More information will follow next week!

1. The Social Studies test on South Africa is Wednesday, October 25th. All Social Studies materials should have been brought home. Vocabulary and short answer questions are on note cards. There are additional notes in the notebooks and the lessons can be reread.
2. Spelling Sentences, the spelling test and reading quiz are due/will be given on Thursday, October 26th due to the Inservice day on October 27th.

- ELA quiz on subjects, predicates and the four types of sentences on 10/11.
- We are taking a written response to the novel, Charlotte’s Web, through the writing process.
- For reading instruction, we are enjoying the short novel, Freckle Juice, but there will not be a reading quiz or spelling test on Friday of next week.
- Math: We are continuing our work on Chapter Two, addition.
- Science: The students are presenting their group findings on Ecosystems in stream. From here, each student will individually choose an ecosystem to research for the diorama project. In class we continue our study of the classification of animals.
- Social Studies: We are starting the Government of S. Africa. We have been discussing the explorations of Christopher Columbus and comparing his voyage to the Dutch explorers who settled in South Africa.
- The Warrior Walk is Friday! There will be no reading quiz or spelling test next week.
- If I don’t message you directly on Dojo, please expect that it was a green day. The children are adjusting to our routine. Much is expected of them in third grade and most seem to be enjoying the challenges. Thank you for your support and please continue to contact me with any concerns or questions.

*We are finishing Lesson Two, The History of South Africa and beginning The Government, Lesson Three.
*Science: We visit the STREAM Lab on Wednesdays. We are researching animals and their ecosystems with Ipads. We will be presenting our findings in the lab next week and then students will choose an ecosystem for an individual project. More info will follow.

Welcome to your Third Grade Year at Nativity School!
Our journey together begins with a look at what makes us super students this year. As super explorers, we will trek through the landscape of South Africa learning about this country's landscape, resources, customs, government and history. As super scientists, we will begin with a study of animals and their ecosystems. As super readers, we will read the chapter book, Charlotte's Web together and will write stories about our own lives as super writers. We will continually think, question and create together.
